Medication is a section where the patient is prescribed with drugs or remedies for the corresponding illness. An allergy is a section that describes a person’s immune system when reacting to a normal harmless substance in an environment. During the patient’s visit to the practice, you may want to either prescribe a new medication for the patient or manage the medications list in your software that the patient is currently taking. You can also record allergies the patient may have.
Note: InSync uses a third party tool (NewCrop) to handle the patient’s medications and allergies records, where you can prescribe medications, manage medications list, renew medications, record allergies, transmit a request to pharmacy, etc.
Important points to keep in mind when working with the Medications/Allergies screen:
• | If you do not want to prescribe medication for the patient, select the Does not take medication check box. This would give you credit for purposes of meeting this MU measure. |
• | Once the medications are reviewed, the reviewer can select the Reviewed by check box. The reviewer’s name appears along with date and time. |
• | The patient education material can be viewed by clicking the View button. The education material can be exported to PDF, printed, and provided to the patient as well. Providing education material will help in increasing numerator for “Core 13: Use clinically relevant information from Certified EHR Technology to identify patient-specific education resources and provide those resources to the patient” of MU-2. Please refer to the above section in Meaningful Use Stage – 2 User Guide for more details. |
• | The medications list can be printed by clicking the Print Medications button. |
• | A list of discontinued medications can be accessed from the Discontinued Medications tab. |
• | The Reconcile Medication & Allergies, Prescribe Medications, and Manage Medications List buttons remain disabled for all the past encounters. They are enabled only for the most recent encounter. |
• | The medications can be prescribed and allergies can be recorded from 3 sections: Facesheet, Encounter, and Treatment Plan. |
